2018

Picture
On one of the first hot days of 2018 we had a walk in Burton Joyce - up Willow Wong, along Lambley Bridle Road and then down Burton Joyce Bridle Road. We finished the walk with a welcome drink at the Blue Bird Cafe.

On 18th January we had a short, slightly muddy, but very pleasant walk at Lowdham, and found some of the first snowdrops of the year.

On Thursday 16th November we took the bus up to Southwell and walked around Norwood Park admiring the autumnal colours and enjoying the sunshine.

On Thursday, 21st September, Marlene's Group went around Colwick Park, as it was rather wet for field paths, then went to Toby's for coffee.
Unfortunately our walk on Thursday, 17th August had to be cancelled because of heavy rain, typical as the rest of the week was lovely sunshine!

On 27th July, we drove to Hoveringham then walked along the river towards Bleasby via Gibsmere.  It was a blustery day but we managed to finish our walk and get home before the torrential rain started around 12.30 pm

On 18th May we went back to Lowdham to see the view without a mist, see if the vines had grown and if the Highland cattle were still there. Lovely view, vines hadn't grown much but the hedgerows had and the cattle had moved.

On 20th April we walked from Lowdham to                Ploughman's Wood to see this year's                        bluebells. The day had started with rain
but by the time we reached the wood we
had a beautiful blue sky. More photos in                  Gallery 2017.

On 23rd March, after a lot of rain earlier in the week, it was decided to stick to footpaths so we walked down to Stoke Lock and back.  It was a lovely sunny day but very, very windy. We were joined at the Lock by a tame Robin.

Once again we were joined by Floss for another misty morning walk on Thursday, 19th January around Gedling Park.

Just a short walk on Thursday, 1st December, known as Kingfisher Walk, down to the river at Burton Joyce -  but the photo is of a heron.

On a misty morning on Thursday, 15th September, 4 of us and Floss the dog went for a walk above Lowdham and were surprised to come across Highland cattle and grape vines. The day's lovely sunshine did not appear until the afternoon.

On Thursday, 25th August Marlene and 2 other took the bus along to Lowdham and walked half way through the              village before turning up the side of the Indian restaurant and heading over the hill to Gonalston. From there  we              walked through Gonalston and did a circuit back round to Lowdham via Lowdham Mill, finishing with a welcome drink        at Miss Molly's before the bus back to Burton Joyce.

On Thursday the 28th July four of us and Floss the dog started our walk in Caythorpe admiring the scarecrows for their  Gala Day Competition on Saturday, 6th August.  From Caythorpe we walked to Ferry Farm at Hoveringham for a welcome drink then followed the river for a while before cutting back to Caythorpe.  Before returning home we popped into the Pottery and had a tour of their showroom and waterwheel.

On the 26th May 6 of us drove to Epperstone and walked over the hill to Hollybeck Nurseries. We had some lovely views along the way, and a welcome drink in their cafe.

On the 28th April we walked from Lambley to Ploughmans Wood to see the bluebells, and were not disappointed.  It was a lovely day and we ended the walk with a coffee outside in the sunshine at the Woodlark.

Our walk on the 17th March remained in Burton Joyce. We walked up to the ridge at the back of the village for magnificent, if slightly misty, views over the village and river.

Our walk on Thursday, 18th February started from Gonalston Farm Shop bus stop, we then walked down through Hoveringham past the lovely snowdrops and the Mill, and through Caythorpe and Lowdham.  A welcome drink at the Magna Charta and then the bus back to Burton Joyce.
