Our trees are growing - 24.3.24
Val and Marcia working in Pen 11. A fair number of the trees had survived when we cleared the long grass and weeds away.
Adopting a Tree Enclosure
The Burton Joyce Climate Action Group have been looking for people to help look after the pens of saplings that have been planted along the river bank to help with erosion. Our WI and Friends have agreed to adopt Pen No.11 which is down from the Nelson Crossing. The only problem for us was access to the pen as they were completely fenced in. I am happy to let you know that John Jackson, the Seven Trent Farm Manager, has come to our rescue and provided our pen with a style for access.
It will be our job to check after flooding that the guards and stakes have not been lost, cut down vegetation in roughly a 1m circle around each tree about twice a year in the growing season, and cut down weeds and clear any litter that has got in.

Train trip to Newark for Afternoon Tea - 27th October
Sixteen people went for Afternoon Tea, 13 of us by train. Arriving in Newark at 12.30 we had time for a coffee and a look at the shops before heading to the Civil War Museum next door to the Palace Theatre. Our tea was advertised as a Victorian event so a number of people added feathered headbands and pearl necklaces to their outfits to add to the occasion. We still had an hour to wait for our train after tea, so a bit more shopping and a drink at the Ram Hotel finished our very pleasant day.

Train trip to Lincoln - Tuesday, 16th August
Since we were last in Lincoln the Cathedral has built a new restaurant with 2 courtyards, so we were lucky enough to be able to all sit in the sunshine and eat together. Some of our group then wandered up to the Castle to meet Lucy the dragon, while the rest took straight to the shops. Everyone meeting again for a last drink before heading to the train station for home.

Day trip to York - 27th November
It would have been nice to have sunshine, but a good day out nonetheless. We first stopped at York Designer Outlet Centre for an hour, during which some of us managed quite a bit of shopping, then travelled on to a wet York.
Afternoon Tea with Lady Denman - 14th November.
Only 3 of our members went along to the Masonic Hall in Nottingham for this event, but we did have a very good time. I'm sure the prosecco helped!
